Iconic Cars and Crews Returning to Celebrate 40 years of the Promenade Stages!

Organisation is well underway for the 2022 Promenade Stages which will be the 40th running of this immensely popular closed road event. To celebrate this milestone achievement, Wallasey Motor Club is inviting a selection of past winning cars and crews to once again take to the twists and turns of New Brighton’s Kings Parade.

Some of these previous winners and cars will be competing on the event and in action around the stages throughout the day, whilst some of the older and more iconic cars will be on display in the rally village throughout the day, leaving their turn around the rally stage until the mid-event winners’ demonstration parade run. There will also be interviews with the drivers and current owners of these fantastic rally cars, now steeped in such great rallying history, as part of the commentary running throughout the day in the main spectator area.

The organisers have already tracked down most of the previous winners and are now working on confirming their availability on the day. The response has been excellent so far and plans are coming together nicely to include the winner of the very first event; an ultra-quick 1981 Talbot Sunbeam plus many others throughout the varying ages of the event and technological advances in rally car design. So, expect to also see the likes of the classic MG Metro 6R4, a Championship dominating twin-engined supercharged VW Scirroco and most special, a selection of the cars driven by the remarkable 11-times rally winner John Price.
