JRT Enville Stages Rally, Anglesey

Article by Paul Evans
After a fantastic result on Rally of the midlands finishing 4th overall after a very tough event that we ended up spending nearly 10 hours in the car on the Saturday. I had not planned to do any other events until the Centenary stages in august but having seen a very good entry for the Enville Stages at Anglesey I decided to enter it with SteveTurner as confidence was high after Rally of the Midlands.

Steve helped me prep the car on the Friday before the rally which was a fantastic help, we arrived on the Saturday for scrutineering both happy that everything on the car was sorted. Our objective for stage 1 was to put a very quick time to hopefully be in the top 5 and we ended up putting in the 5thfastest time. Stage 2 was a repeat of stage 1 and we did it in exactly the same stage time, after a change round of the stage we clocked exactly the same time for stages 3 and 4 which was amazing.
A half spin in front of rally leader John Cope Cost me a little time but after getting the cold shoulder treatment from him when I went over to apologise just spurred me on even more and on the next stage he actually held me up. Still lying 5th overall after the half spin I was taking time out of Mick Gilman in his Escort Cosworth who was 4th overall. The last 2 stages I decided not to push as hard but to concentrate on the racing lines due to a lack of rear end grip. Most stages we caught up cars on our 2nd lap but with the power of my engine we just gobbled them up and over took losing no time at all.
Amazingly the last 2 stages we again clocked the exact time so basically 3 stages out of 4 that were repeated I did the same times so talk about being consistent. Geoff Roberts who won a rally was someone we were checking our times against and we ended up taking over 1 minute out of him so proved after doing the rallies that I have done this year has helped get me up to speed.
I am still leading the Heart of England Championship, lol Powell and I intend to do the next round in August and the Prom Rally in September which will be a great event with the super special stage on the Friday!
