Liverpool Pageant of Power
The Strand in Liverpool city centre was closed off for several hours on 25th May to allow the organisers of the Cholmondeley Pageant of Power to put on a taster of what is in store for visitors to their main event on 17th/18th July and to coincide with the second birthday of the Liverpool ONE complex.
Powerboats and jet skis in the Salthouse Dock, Breitling wing-walking displays over the Mersey and a multi-million pound assembly of road-going and race cars were on display outside the Hilton hotel. Up to 20,000 people were estimated to have lined The Strand to catch a glimpse of a variety of cars performing demonstration drags ranging from a Napier Bentley, Lister Jaguar, Bugatti Veyron, Ferrari Enzo, Liverpool FCsponsored GP car, racing bikes and even a JCB dragster! It is hoped that this will not just be a one-off event, especially if the interest shown for this taste event can be sustained and built upon.
